Our Yurts

We have two 20ft diameter Scottish made Yurts that can sleep up to 6 people and an 18ft diameter Yurt that can sleep up to 4 people. All three are available for hire all year round.

They each have the following features;

  • Luxury double bed plus two futon sofa-beds for other guests (double futons in the larger yurts and singles in the smaller yurt).
  • Fully equipped with all you will need (towels, bedding and crockery) - just bring your clothes!
  • Wood burning stove/cooker (including an oven) for heat and cooking.
  • Insulated for year round comfort.
  • Private bathroom with shower (including a composting toilet).
  • Outdoor firepit with cooking utensils and picnic bench.
  • Solar powered lighting.
  • Free WiFi.
  • Shared pot washing and laundry facilities (washing machine).
  • A romantic atmosphere!

Yurts (or 'Gers' as they are somtimes called) are a traditional dwelling from Mongolia that have been used for many centuries. We first stayed in a Yurt eight years ago and have loved them ever since. They provide a fabulous place to stay with an atmosphere that is unique and tranquil. Paul at Highland Yurts has done a wonderful job in hand-building our three larch wood framed Yurts. We're sure you'll love them as much as we do.

Our Site

Our site is set in a small orchard located near to the Old Manse just outside the hamlet of Kilmory. Along with the two yurts the orchard contains the bathroom block which houses private bathrooms for each and a shared laundry and potwashing facility (sink, washing machine, shared fridge, microwave and kettle). Parking for the site is a couple of minutes walk away and no cars are allowed on site making it safe for kids to run and play.

Our site is on the south end of the Isle of Arran 35 minutes drive from the ferry port at Brodick. We are fifteen minutes walk from Torrylinn beach (see the image on the home page) and ten minutes walk from the nearest restaurant (The Lagg Hotel). You can also gain access directly onto forest tracks from the site - great for strolling or cycling.

We keep chickens, ducks, geese and bees on our land and as such there is usually a supply of fresh eggs and honey.

The nearest shop is a local store in Blackwaterfoot, which is fifteen minutes drive away. Blackwaterfoot also contains a number of restaurants and shops and an indoor swimming pool.

The main villages on Arran are all within easy reach - Whiting Bay - 15 minutes drive, Lamlash - 20 minutes drive, Brodick - 35 minutes drive. There is also a regular bus service that goes round the island and stops in Kilmory - 5 minutes walk from us.
